14. What will be the network bandwidth consumption for normal activity?

LAB TRACKER HIV runs in a File Server/Fat client configuration. All data access to the master tables on the server is accomplished across the network. The results of the queries are stored on the workstation temporarily. Any changes are done using Updates or Inserts. Some select queries with complex where statements can generate a lot of network traffic as both the data and the index files must be accessed from the client machines.

15. Which network protocols should be used?

LAB TRACKER HIV can use any underlying protocol as long as files can be accessed on the server.

16. What is the minimum server configuration (hardware and software components)?

Any server that can be accessed from a Windows 98/2000/XP client can be used. Such servers include Windows 2000 Server, Novel NetWare, etc. A server with a Pentium III-600 or better, 256 MB of RAM, and two (preferred, one is possible) 4-Gig hard drives is sufficient.

17. Who will need "administrator" or "root" privileges on the server?

LAB TRACKER HIV requires read/write privileges for all users for the LAB TRACKER HIV directory and all of its sub directories. There is also another directory hopefully on a second disk where the Journal information is kept (SEE 21 BELOW). All users need read/write for this as well.

18. What database is used and what is the database revision level?

The underlying data is stored in Visual Fox Pro 7.0 tables and the program is written in the same. The LAB TRACKER HIV program and Runtime files and ancillary files are placed on each client machine. The master data all reside on the server.

19. How will the database be accessed?

The data on the server is accessed through SQL commands to Visual FoxPro that then accesses the server as required. The working tables are stored on the local user's hard drive.

20. How will backups be done?

You can backup the entire server over the network as you would any server, or you can have your own magnetic tape drive on the server, and set it up to do daily backups.

21. Describe disaster recovery requirements.

At least once a day, all data is backed up to a separate directory. We also have a journaling option (SEE 17 ABOVE), which logs all database changes. You can use this to restore any changes manually from the last backup (either by you from tape, or by the automatic daily backup).

22. Does our license allow us to install LAB TRACKER HIV on multiple computers with multiple user passwords?

Yes, the license allows for LAB TRACKER HIV to be installed on one (1) Local Area Network. It does not matter to Ground Zero Software how many people or seats have access to LAB TRACKER HIV. The System Administrator makes those assignments. By using the password feature, four levels of access can be assigned: System Administrator, Administrator, Limited Access, or View-only.
